Our top 5 favourite beaches in the Landes!
If it's the beach that brings you camping in Les Landes, here's a small selection of our favourite sandy spots. At the Lou Pignada campsite, we're lucky enough to be just 1.5 km from the beach at Messanges, which you can reach on foot or by bike. But there are many other beaches well worth a visit. Here are our summer favourites and the beaches, among many others, to discover during your stay!
Port d'Albret Beach, Soustons - Vieux-Boucau
Just a few minutes from the campsite, the beach on the marine lake at Port d'Albret is very popular with families, as children can swim there in complete safety. In summer, the lifeguards keep a close eye on things. Other advantages: there are no waves and the water temperature is even more pleasant than that of the ocean (up to 3 degrees warmer!). You can also go stand-up paddling, catamaran sailing, windsurfing and canoeing against the backdrop of the wild island of Vieux-Boucau. To find out more, see our page devoted to Vieux Boucau Port d'Albret.
- Distance from the campsite: 5 km (10 minutes by car)
La Plage des Chênes Lièges, Moliets and Mâa
Among our favourite beaches, we chose the Plage des Chênes Lièges. Admittedly, you have to walk a little (900 metres from the car park) before you can put your things down on the sand. As a result, it's much less busy than the central beach of Moliets et Mâa. More intimate, but also wilder, but no less tamed. Access is good and swimming is supervised in high season. Beginner surfers come here to practise their skills.
- Distance from the campsite: 8 km (15 minutes by car)
La Plage de la Lette Blanche, Vielle Saint Girons
The Plage de la Lette Blanche is located in Vielle-Saint-Girons, a small village in the forest between the lake and the ocean. It is one of the wildest beaches in the Landes. Nestling in the heart of the Courant d'Huchet Nature Reserve, this stretch of sand appeals enormously to holidaymakers in search of peace and quiet and wide-open spaces untouched by construction. Swimming is supervised in summer and a tiralo is available for people with reduced mobility. There is also a large, free, shaded car park.
- Distance from the campsite: 14 km (20 minutes by car)
Hossegor's central beach
One of our favourite beaches, Hossegor's beaches are renowned for their cleanliness, and the Plage Centrale is no exception. In summer, it's the busiest beach in the resort. Both sporty and family-friendly, it combines swimming, walking or cycling on the beach and family strolls along the seafront. Behind the sand is the town centre, with its shops, bars and restaurants, sunny terraces for ice creams and snacks... The icing on the cake is free parking on the Boulevard de la Dune.
- Distance from the campsite: 18 km (25 minutes by car)
Contis beach, Saint-Julien-en-Born
A final favourite is the beach at Contis near Saint-Julien-en-Born. This 5km-long stretch of sand is a beautiful natural setting between forest, dunes and ocean, all the way to the beach at Mimizan. Only the central area is supervised in summer. There's a children's club right on the sand, as well as the famous black-and-white Contis lighthouse! The beach is fairly narrow, widening to the south near the Contis current, where swimming is prohibited. To the north, the baïnes make swimming dangerous at times. However, surfers visiting the Landes have made it a must.
